Education Enhancement
ALOCA’s education programme seeks to invest in equipping and inspiring the next generation of Kenyan conservationists.
The programme aims to achieve this by expanding access to education and promoting conservation through education. Its two core focus areas are as outlined below.
1. Conservation Education
ALOCA’s education programme supports local schools to incorporate conservation education into their extra-curriculum. This includes environmental clubs as well as sporting and cultural events, such as drama and music festivals.
Through these activities, the young learners gain an in depth understanding of the important role ecological connectivity and biodiversity conservation plays in the Amboseli ecosystem.
They also get to appreciate the role they too can play in promoting and preserving not only the environment but also the rich cultural aspects of the communities in the Amboseli landscape.
2. Scholarships and Infrastructure
ALOCA is currently setting up an education fund to support the secondary school and college/university education of the best-performing students from underprivileged backgrounds in the local communities.
The fund will also look into supporting the education institutions in the region with their infrastructure initiatives, be it construction of additional classrooms or a modern library or even help with the provision of school supplies for the classroom or for extracurricular activities.
